Pokemon Team Notes

Looker – A Piplup received from Professor Rowan. Curious, wanders off a lot, fearless. Not the leader of the group though, and not really much of a fighter for the longest time, he seems at times more like Neil’s little brother than his pokemon.

Carter – A Psyduck met in Ravaged Path in the middle of Route 204. Neil met him during his exploring of the Jubilife area, taking to the Dex Quest like a fish to water, but found Ravaged Path to be a dead end when he didn’t have Rock Smash. The main water type of the team, in a team rather full of water types. He seems to have picked up on Neil’s concern for the Piplup and looks after him/takes over for him quite often to try to keep Looker from getting hurt. Highly loyal, not just to Neil but to the others. Possibly the real leader here?

Archie – A Magicarp Neil caught when going back to Twinleaf to visit town for a bit and think things over about his new quest, also while waiting for news from Rowan on the Onix he caught in Rustboro. Seems to be really stupid as it never does anything but flop around and even the rest of the team tends to just watch it flop or swim in circles like a goldfish. Early on, Neil seems to forget he even has it sometimes and pulls it out into battle on accident before recalling him immediately. Now that he’s a Gyarados, Neil is not disappointed as the temperamental thing is at least on our side as it goes on to one-shot things. Personality still varying.

Regina – A Budew Neil caught on Route 204 during Neil’s Dex Quest spree around Jubilife and also the first female of the team. Neil was told by a lady he met in Oreburgh’s Pokemon Center that Budew are sensitive and delicate flowers and he should keep her with him. Taking the advice he does just that, not letting her out of the party once until after her evolution into the sturdier Roselia. Before she evolved though, she still proved to be vital in his match against Roark, taking out the entire team solo. Regina does still play up the delicate flower role, but is quite the vain thing. Being the team’s ONLY grass type, she feels quite out of place among the water and rock types and often just keeps close to Neil as he’s her secure point.

Stark – A Starly caught on Route 201, and Neil’s first solo catch. Neil doesn’t really use Stark unless he has to as he has a bit of an unfortunate bias against Starly. Really it was a catch just to see if he could after Dawn showed him how. It seems the feeling is mutual though as Stark knows he may be owned, but he’s quite defiant or seems to accept that he should take orders because he has reluctant respect that Neil does actually know what he’s doing when strategizing. Used in first real fight against Arty’s Turtwig, also key to victory against Gardenia taking down her first two.

Beaver – A Bidoof met at Lake Verity when Neil was preparing to set off on his journey. Caught after Stark during visit to the lake as Neil stopped by there to think things over considering his fears about the journey ahead. Beaver is something of a pet among the group, not very bright and often used to defend other teammates. Especially now that he’s evolved with the Defense Curl/Rollout Combo, he sees no problem literally charging onward into battle if told to do so. Does honestly seem to enjoy fighting though, so perhaps he came to Neil wanting to go on a journey as well.

John – A Shinx Neil caught on Route 202 thanks to Dawn’s help when showing him how to catch pokemon. Has the Rivalry ability which does more damage to other males. Possibly ladies man, possibly defender of the females in the group as knight in sparky armor? Not that he could do much until he got Spark and more often than not, Regina was saving him there at the beginning. Especially against Geodudes. Always with the Geodudes. Probably doesn’t get along with Stark. Helped take down Mars by one-shotting her Zubat.

Brock – A Geodude caught on the way to Oreburgh in Oreburgh Gate. Neil had no idea that this strange thing he’s never seen before would become an annoying commonplace throughout the rest of the region. Still, even if he’s gained a dislike for dealing with wild Geodude, it hasn’t changed his feelings for Brock. Brock seems to be an older teammate, sensible sage of the group and sensitive to Neil. He’s good at reading what’s on the kid’s mind and seems genuinely concerned for him. Parental figure to others as well. Spends a lot of time with Mythos though, other elder of the group (complaining about these darn kids with their wishy washy water ways *shot* ) and fellow rock type.

Mythos – The monster caught in Oreburgh Mines, and what an intro he gets. Due to the changes going on in the world, and his deep connection to the earth and Mt. Coronet, this Onix was found wrecking the mines in a rampage of confusion and terror. Neil thought to catch him to take to Prof. Rowan for studying, but after the long and hard battle full of close calls on Brock (failing to calm him down), Beaver (using Growl to at least ease the pain), Tank (quickly realized bad idea) and finally with Carter before being caught (yay our hero!~ … Oddly enough with Return. Maybe it told Onix something?) Mythos, so named because this seems to be the goddamn legendary of the mines here, is a gruff old thing but does actually enjoy fighting. Probably his age, but there’s a certain thrill to the battles and after that long and hard match (and being thankful for them saving him rather than destroying him for going berserk), has complete respect and loyalties to Neil and Carter as well as probably the first to point out their oddly strong bond with each other.

Tank – A machop caught on Route 207. Tank is as his name implies, the hard hitter of the group. Originally Neil caught him at Arty’s suggestion for taking on Roark considering that the leader proved even with a type advantage this is not gonna be an easy fight by any means. He knows the move Rock Smash and as one of the kids of the group, doesn’t fight much. He’s playful and energetic and likes to do his personal training, sometimes one-on-one with other members of the group as he doesn’t get the chance to do otherwise. Was vital in the fight against Mars though using Low Kick and Leer on her Purgly.

Monica – A Zubat caught on Route 203 during Neil’s Jubilife catch spree. Also the second female to join of the group. Along with Archie, one of the weaker members of the group that took some time and dedication to prove her worth. Most of her fights have just been her confusing the enemy and trying not to take too much damage, but more often than not she’d have to be switched out to someone stronger. She earned her stripes before he did though, gaining an advantage after finally learning Bite. She still hasn’t seen much fighting though, and got her chance to show off on Gardenia’s trainers at the very least. She’s a sweetheart though, playing as mom of the group and affectionately looks after Neil and the “other little dears” whenever she’s with the group. Unfortunately, she has been in and out of the group due to her inability to fight, but still keeps an eye from the PC.

Lola – The third and final member of the girls’ club, a Buneary caught in Eterna Forest with Cheryl’s help. Neil at first thought to give her to Cheryl after capturing her, as it was at her request he do so, but Cheryl said it was more for his benefit as a Dex Holder as this is the only place Buneary can be found. Don’t underestimate them though, they’re quite a bane to many travelers through these woods. At first Neil didn’t think much of her, fluffy bunny and all, but between his own feelings about the wods, and her moody way of curling up into herself and avoiding the group, he became curious to get to know her. She is a very bitter bunny, and seems to want nothing to do with him or the rest of the group, and now wears the Sooth Bell like a collar so she jingles a lot. The bell does still help in comforting her, and as a sign of affection from Neil, she’s come to feel less threatened by him, but still mad at him. Frustration for maximum damage! Now that she knows Cut, she doesn’t leave the group very much as they’ve been exploring the Eterna City area for stuff with Galactic.

Tom – The Rotom caught at the Old Chateau. Ghosts have long since been rumored to live in this house, and judging from the pictures and old notebooks found in the place, it seems this is our guy. A fail and mischievous thing, but not much else is known about him yet.

Saturn – A Bronzor caught on Route 211 with Arty’s “help” after realizing how much trouble Neil would probably have the gym with his water/rock team. After some training around, didn’t actually do much of anything in the actual gym fight, but went on to be a HUGE help at the Old Chateau mostly serving as a shield, confusing the hell out of Galactic and picking up energy readings on the building and the human ghosts of the Chateau. As it is a psychic, still up for debate if it can communicate with Neil telepathically or not.

Medi – A Meditite caught in the Route 211 entrance to Mt. Coronet. Though pretty much all Neil found there since the place is a dead end without Strength. Due to a fatal error on Neil’s part, he was the first one to die on the journey, but left little real impact on the group as he didn’t last long enough to gain a single level. Died in Eterna Forest when going back to explore the now empty Old Chateau, and fell to a Beautifly. Gust attack literally knocked the wind out of him.

Astor: A Sheildon revived from a fossil in Orebugh City at the museum. The newest member of the group, not much is known about him yet.

Josselin – A Drifloon caught outside the Valley Windworks. Mysterious pokemon Neil had been looking for considering that it was hinted to be rare by the owner and his daughter. Only to have the boy be slightly disappointed to find out that everyone knows the Drifloon show up there, and strangely only once a week, so all his effort to get one was in vain. However, Rowan encouraged him not to be upset by it not being all that big a mystery, because honestly not many have been able to study them since they are hard to catch. Wonderful opportunity, boy! Be proud! Josselin and Saturn aren’t sure what to think of each other, but they do seem to get a long at least.
